Early Life and Education

Nikolai Vladimirovich Komissarov was born on January 5 (17), 1890, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He completed his education at the Petersburg Commercial College.

Early Career

Komissarov initially worked at the Kiev office of the State Bank. Concurrently, he pursued his passion for acting, performing on stage and with P. P. Struisky's troupe.

Professional Stage Career

Komissarov's professional stage career began in 1920. He worked at theaters in Kiev, Stary Oskol, and Kremenchug. From 1925 to 1927, he performed with the Leningrad Comedy Theatre. He also graced stages in the Far East and Yaroslavl.

Odessa and Moscow

From 1934 to 1945, Komissarov served as an actor and director at the Odessa Russian Drama Theatre. In 1946, he joined the renowned Maly Theatre in Moscow.

Signature Roles

Komissarov excelled in roles that portrayed individuals with a false sense of importance and a penchant for obsequiousness towards superiors. Among his notable performances were Zakhar in Ostrovsky's "Last Victims" and Vanya Kudryash in Gogol's "Marriage."

Recognition and Legacy

In 1946, Komissarov was bestowed with the title of People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. He was awarded two Stalin Prizes of the first degree in 1951 and 1952. Komissarov passed away on September 30, 1957, in Moscow. His resting place is the Vvedenskoye Cemetery.
