Biography
Nikolai Nenovsky, a renowned Bulgarian economist, was born on July 26, 1963, in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. His father, Neno Nenovsky, was a prominent lawyer who served as a member of the Constitutional Court and held several other prestigious positions.
Education and Career
Nenovsky pursued his education at Lomonosov Moscow State University, graduating in 1989. He underwent internships in France and Switzerland before obtaining his doctorate in economics from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1995. Currently, he is a professor of economics and finance at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia.
National Bank and Advisory Roles
In 1996, Nenovsky joined the Bulgarian National Bank, where he conducted extensive research in monetary theory and policy. He held various positions, including Head of the Research Department and, from 2002 to 2008, Member of the Governing Council. Additionally, he served as a member of the Economic Consultative Council to the President of Bulgaria.
Academic Collaborations
Nenovsky has established collaborations with esteemed institutions, such as the Laboratoire d'Économie d'Orléans (LEO) in France (since 2002) and the International Center for Economic Research (ICER) in Turin, Italy (since 2006). He has also been affiliated with the Studium Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Orleans since 2010.
Organizational Leadership and Publications
In 2003, Nenovsky co-founded the Bulgarian Macroeconomic Association, serving as its vice-president until 2005. He founded the Bulgarian Hayek Society in 2002 and initiated monthly seminars under its umbrella. Nenovsky is an active member of the editorial boards of several academic journals, including the 'Revue d'Économie politique' in France, the 'East -West Journal of Economics and Business' in Greece, and the 'Journal of Comparative Economic Studies' in Japan.
Research Interests
Nenovsky's research interests span monetary economics, international finance, currency boards, the Eurozone, economic history, and the theory and history of economic crises. His publications have made significant contributions to these fields.
