Nina Aleksandrovna Ostannina

Early Life and Education

Nina Aleksandrovna Ostannina was born on December 26, 1955, in the village of Kolpakovo, Topchikha District, Altai Krai, Russian SFSR. She graduated from the History Faculty of Altai State University in Barnaul.

Political Career

Regional Politics

In the late 1993, Ostannina was a founding member of the "Narodovlastie" (People's Power) regional bloc supporting Aman Tuleyev. From 1994 to 1999, she served in the leadership of the group. In 1994 and 1995, she was an assistant to Tuleyev, then Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Kemerovo Oblast.

State Duma

In 1995, Ostannina was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation for the second convocation. In March 1996, she signed an agreement on behalf of the "Narodovlastie" bloc to support Gennady Zyuganov in the presidential election.

In October 1997, Ostannina ran for the governorship of Kemerovo Oblast. Along with two other candidates, she refused federal funding for her campaign and ultimately lost the election. In 1999, she participated in the formation of the "Aman Tuleyev Bloc."

In December 1999, Ostannina was elected to the State Duma for the third convocation. She served as Deputy Chair of the Committee on Women, Family, and Youth.

Personal Life

Nina Ostannina is married and has two sons.
