Nitya Pibulsonggram
Early Life and EducationNitya Pibulsonggram was born on June 30, 1941, in Bangkok, Thailand. He began his education at Bangkok Christian College before pursuing higher education in the United States. In 1964, he graduated from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He continued his studies in America and obtained a Master's degree in Political Science.
Diplomatic Career
Pibulsonggram embarked on his diplomatic career in 1968 when he joined the Information Department of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). He held various positions within the MFA, including Assistant to the Secretary-General (1973-1974) and Director of the Southeast Asia Division in the Department of Political Affairs (1975-1976).
United Nations Mission
In 1976, Pibulsonggram was assigned to the Royal Thai Mission to the United Nations in New York. He served as First Secretary and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Permanent Representative.
Return to Thailand and International Service
In 1980, he returned to Thailand and served as Deputy Director-General of the MFA's Information Department. He was subsequently appointed Ambassador-at-Large (1982) and Director-General of the Department of International Organizations.
Permanent Representative to the UN
Pibulsonggram returned to New York in 1988 as Thailand's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, a role he held for eight years.
Ambassador to the United States
From 1996 to 1998, Pibulsonggram served as Thailand's Ambassador to the United States.
