Tzipi Livni: A Journey from Law to Foreign Diplomacy
Early Life and EducationTzipi Livni was born on July 5, 1958. She graduated from Bar Ilan University with a Bachelor of Laws degree.
Military and Legal Career
Lt. Livni served in the Israel Defense Forces after completing her studies. Subsequently, she established her own law firm and practiced for a decade.
Entry into the Mossad
From 1980 to 1984, Livni worked in the Israeli intelligence agency, the Mossad.
Political Ascent
Livni began her political career in 1996 as the General Director of the Government Companies Authority. In 1999, she entered the Knesset as a member of the Likud party.
Ministerial Positions
Livni's first ministerial appointment was as Minister of Agriculture in 2001. In February 2003, she became the Minister of Immigration Absorption.
The Kadima Party
Livni joined the Kadima party, founded by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon shortly before his stroke.
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Livni became the second woman after Golda Meir to hold the position of Foreign Minister in Israel. She is married and has two children.
