Nodar Kumaritashvili was a Georgian luger who tragically died while training for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He was born into a family of renowned Georgian lugers and had begun to make a name for himself in the sport.

Early Career

Kumaritashvili competed in the World Cups in the 2008-2009 season, finishing in 55th place, and improved to 44th place in the following year. His performance in these competitions earned him a spot on the Georgian national team for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Final Season

In the last World Cup event before the 2010 Olympics, Kumaritashvili achieved his best result, finishing in 28th place. During the first run, he was in 30th position before moving up the rankings. This performance showcased his potential and set high hopes for his Olympic debut.
