Nurtas Adambay: From Humble Beginnings to Cinematic Success
Early Life and FamilyNurtas Adambay was born on December 14, 1981, in the city of Taraz (formerly known as Jambul), Kazakhstan. His parents were a teacher and a KGB officer, and he had two older brothers. The family faced financial difficulties after his father left the KGB in protest against political unrest in the region, with his mother's meager salary barely covering their basic needs.
Despite these hardships, Adambay's mother instilled in him a belief that he was the most intelligent boy in the world. This belief would later become a driving force in his career.
Education and Creative Pursuits
After high school, Adambay attended the Ablai Khan Kazakhstan University of International Relations and World Languages. In his early years, he lived in poverty, often dining with wealthy relatives. However, his financial situation improved when he joined the university's KVN team, a popular satirical comedy competition.
Adambay's comedic writing skills quickly earned him recognition, and he became a star of the Kazakhstan national team, "Astana.kz." After graduating with honors in 2002, he continued to pursue his passion for humor and creativity.
Humor and Film Career
Adambay's career in entertainment began with writing jokes for KVN teams. In 2008, he launched the sketch comedy show "Nasha Kazasha," a Kazakh adaptation of the British show "Little Britain."
His big-screen debut came in the comedy "Kairat - Champion, or The Virgin Number One." Adambay often took on multiple roles in his films, including writer, producer, director, and starring actor. This was evident in "Akim" (2019), a Kazakh spin-off of the Russian crime drama "Major."
Versatile Artist and Beloved Projects
While primarily known for his comedic roles, Adambay has also ventured into drama, with the 2018 film "Lift." Two of his most beloved projects among Kazakh audiences are "Escape from the Village," in which he played Yerbol Apshuber, and the feature film "Kelinka Sabina," where he transformed into the capricious and naive Sabina.
Both films spawned sequels, with "Escape from the Village: Operation Makhabbat" featuring renowned actress Arujan Dzhilzilbekova.
Personal Life and Family
Adambay is private about his personal life but occasionally shares photos of his son, Alisher, on social media. He married Galia, a graphic designer from Almaty, in 2011. However, they divorced a year later due to Adambay's demanding work schedule.
After realizing the importance of his role as a father, Adambay reconciled with Galia in 2015, and they remarried. Their family enjoys skiing and spending time together.
Recent Works and Beliefs
In an interview in 2021, Adambay revealed that he experienced depression during the COVID-19 pandemic but found solace in his faith.
In February 2022, he released the third installment of the "Kelinka Sabina" series, once again directing and starring in the title role. In the same year, he voiced support for the ban of the animated film "Lightyear" in Kazakhstan due to its portrayal of a homosexual relationship.
Adambay remains committed to his belief that he will never portray a character of non-traditional sexual orientation, a stance he expressed in an interview in 2014.
