Early Life and Political Career
Nurul Amin was born in 1893 into a wealthy family in Mymensingh, Bengal. In 1946, he became the President of the Bengal Legislative Assembly, marking the beginning of his political career. Following the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan, Amin joined the Pakistan Muslim League.
Chief Minister of East Pakistan
From 1948 to 1952, Nurul Amin served as the Chief Minister of East Pakistan. During this period, he oversaw a period of political stability and economic development.
Departure from Muslim League
In 1956, Amin left the Muslim League and established his own political party, the Pakistan Democratic Party.
National Assembly Election
The first general elections in Pakistan were held in 1970, and the Awami League won a landslide victory. Amin secured one of the two remaining seats.
Premier of Pakistan
Despite his opposition to the secessionist movement in East Pakistan, Nurul Amin was appointed Premier of Pakistan by General Yahya Khan in 1971. He held this position only briefly, from December 7 to 20.
Death
Nurul Amin passed away in Rawalpindi on October 2, 1974. He was remembered as a patriot who had witnessed the tumultuous events that shaped Pakistan's history.
