Birth and Early Life
Olaoluwakunle Olusegun was born on April 23, 2002, in Ilorin, Nigeria, to a police officer father. Despite his father's preference for a traditional education, Olusegun's passion for football led him to pursue it relentlessly. At an early age, he began earning money by repairing football boots, carpentry, and tending to livestock.
Youth Career
Olusegun's remarkable talent was recognized in Nigerian football academies. He excelled for the Nigeria U-17 national team, reaching the Round of 16 at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup. His performances caught the attention of European clubs, but he opted to join the amateur team Vista Gelendzhik in Russia.
Professional Career
After signing with FC Fremad Amager in Denmark, Olusegun moved to Botev Plovdiv in Bulgaria in 2021. Almost immediately, he was loaned to Krasnodar-2, the second team of FC Krasnodar. In 19 appearances, he scored 6 goals, earning a promotion to the first team.
On April 8, 2022, Olusegun made his Russian Premier League debut against FC Dynamo Moscow, although he was substituted at halftime. In June, Krasnodar-1 paid Botev to acquire Olusegun's full rights. He scored his first goals for Krasnodar in August, with a brace against FC Lokomotiv Moscow.
Personal Life
Olusegun is tight-knit with his mother, who he misses when he's away from home. He enjoys playing the electric guitar in his spare time.
Record-Breaking Season
In October 2022, Olusegun set a new Russian Premier League record by scoring the fastest goal in the league's history. Against FC Rostov, he netted the ball just 8.9 seconds after the starting whistle, surpassing the previous record held by Emmanuel Emenike.
