Oleg Davey: Plastic Surgeon Facing Negligence Charges
Negligence and Unintentional ManslaughterOleg Davey, a plastic surgeon, is currently facing charges of criminal negligence and involuntary manslaughter. According to one attorney involved in the case, doctors are strongly advised against performing cosmetic procedures such as liposuction on patients with underlying heart conditions.
A Tragic Incident
51-year-old Isel Pineda was dissatisfied with her appearance and underwent liposuction before a planned vacation. Despite having undergone a complex heart surgery in 2004, she was eager to address her perceived weight issue.
A Conflicting Decision
Other doctors deemed Pineda's request for liposuction unfeasible due to her ongoing heart condition and medication. However, Davey agreed to perform the surgery.
Consequences of Negligence
Following the surgery, Pineda suffered a stroke and was rushed to Coney Island Hospital. Despite medical intervention, she passed away from a heart attack. The charges against Davey stem from his alleged disregard for Pineda's medical history, including failure to consult with her cardiologist.
Denying Blame
Davey has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His defense team claims that Pineda's death was an unfortunate coincidence unrelated to her heart condition. They also attempt to dismiss Davey's attempt to destroy evidence as a panicked mistake.
Potential Sentence and Aftermath
Davey faces up to 34 years in prison if convicted. He is currently out on bail. Following the tragedy, he surrendered his medical license. Davey has declined to comment on the case, but it is known that he surrendered his medical license shortly after the incident.
