Education and Career
Olga Sánchez Cordero de García is a renowned Mexican politician and jurist. She obtained a law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1970, writing her thesis on "Revolution and the Interpretation of Law."
Cordero has held various esteemed positions throughout her career. From 1984 to 1993, she served as a notary public, becoming the first woman in Mexico to hold this title. She also practiced law, worked as a judge in the capital district, and taught law at several Mexican universities.
Tenure as Supreme Court Justice
In 1995, Sánchez Cordero was appointed as a Justice of the Mexican National Supreme Court. She served in this capacity until 2015, making significant contributions to the judiciary.
Political Career
In 2017, she joined the campaign team of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who was vying for the presidency of Mexico. Following López Obrador's victory in the 2018 general election, Cordero was elected to the Mexican Senate, serving from September 1 to November 28 of that year.
After López Obrador's inauguration as president on December 1, Sánchez Cordero accepted his invitation to become Mexico's Minister of the Interior.
