Early Life and Career
Otto Heinrich Drechsler was born in Germany and pursued higher education, earning a doctorate in medicine. He became a dentist by profession and served in the German military during World War I.
Political Involvement
In 1925, Drechsler joined the Nazi Party (NSDAP). He rose through the ranks of the Brownshirt (SA) paramilitary organization, reaching the rank of Oberstaffelführer in its motorized units. From 1932 to 1933, he served as deputy Gauleiter of Mecklenburg-Lübeck.
Mayor of Lübeck
Following the Nazi Party's rise to power in 1933, Drechsler was appointed Mayor of Lübeck. He also held the position of President of the Senate of the Free City of Lübeck and was a Prussian State Councilor. He became a member of the Supervisory Board of "Hochofenwerk Lübeck AG."
General Commissioner of Latvia
On April 1, 1937, Drechsler was promoted to Ober-Bürgermeister of Lübeck. During World War II, he served as General Commissioner of Latvia in the Reichskommissariat Ostland from July 17, 1941, until May 1945. His headquarters were in Riga.
Post-War and Death
At the end of the war, Drechsler was arrested by the British Army after the capture of Lübeck. On May 5, 1945, he committed suicide.
