Ovsei Driz was born on March 16 (29), 1908, in the shtetl of Krasne, near Vinnytsia. After his father passed away while working overseas, Driz studied at the Kiev Art School.
Military Service and Literary Career
From 1934 to 1947, Driz served in the border troops. Despite his military career, he pursued his passion for poetry, writing in the Yiddish language. His work became highly acclaimed by both readers and esteemed Russian poets.
Recognition and Translations
Driz's fairy tale poems were included in an anthology of world fairy tales. His poetry was masterfully translated into Russian by renowned poets such as Boris Slutsky, Genrikh Sapgir, and Yury Moritz. Valeriya Boguslavskaya also translated his work into Ukrainian.
