Early Life and Club Career
Pablo Barrera is a Mexican footballer who played for UNAM Pumas and the Mexican national team. He began his career at Pumas at the age of 12. He made his debut for the first team in 2005 against Tigres, and scored his first goal for the club in 2007 against Monarcas.
Success with Pumas
After becoming a regular starter for Pumas, Barrera received a call-up to the Mexican national team under Hugo Sanchez. In 2009, he helped Pumas win the Clausura championship.
Injury and Return
In 2008, Barrera suffered a serious injury to his right knee, which required six months of recovery. He returned to action and helped Pumas win the Clausura championship in 2009.
Transfer to West Ham United
In 2010, Barrera joined West Ham United on a four-year contract for £4 million.
International Career
Barrera represented Mexico at the youth level, scoring two goals at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. He made his debut for the senior team in 2007 against Guatemala.
International Honor
Barrera was part of the Mexican team that won the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
