Pamela Ann Melroy

Pamela Ann Melroy is an American astronaut and a current member of NASA. She was born on September 17, 1961, in Palo Alto, California, USA.
Education
Melroy attended Bishop Kearney High School in Rochester, New York, and graduated in 1979. She then pursued her bachelor's degree in Physics and Astronomy from Wellesley College in 1983. In 1984, she obtained her master's degree in Earth and Planetary Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She furthered her education by attending flight training school at the Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas in 1985. Later, in 1991, she completed the Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Service
Melroy began her service in the United States Air Force in 1983. From 1985 to 1991, she served as a co-pilot, pilot, and instructor pilot of the KC-10 transport aircraft at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. She participated in the "Desert Storm" operation and completed over 200 combat flight hours. From 1991 to 1994, she served as a test pilot in the 17th Test Squadron. Throughout her career, she accumulated over 4000 flight hours on 45 different aircraft types.
Space Activities
In December 1994, Melroy was selected to join the NASA astronaut corps. From March 1995 to March 1996, she underwent comprehensive astronaut training at the NASA Johnson Space Center.
Spaceflights
Melroy's first spaceflight took place from October 11 to October 24, 2000, as the pilot of the "Discovery" spacecraft for the STS-92 mission. The mission lasted 12 days, 21 hours, 42 minutes, and 41 seconds, and its primary objective was to deliver supplies to the International Space Station and perform assembly work.
Awards
Melroy has received numerous awards and recognitions for her achievements. She has been honored with medals from the United States Air Force and the NASA "Space Flight" medal in 2000.
Personal Life and Hobbies
Pamela Melroy is married to Christopher Wallace. In her free time, she enjoys theater, jazz, reading, cooking, and flying airplanes.
