Alexis Allexiano, a renowned Greek-born admiral, served with distinction in the Russian Navy, rising through the ranks and leaving a legacy of bravery and leadership.

Early Career and Exploits

In 1772, under the command of Count Orlov-Chesmensky, Allexiano embarked on a mission to the shores of Egypt. Off the coast of Damietta, he engaged in a fierce battle, decimating the Egyptian naval force. On his return, he intercepted and captured a Turkish vessel.

Command and Recognition

Subsequently, Allexiano assumed command of the right flank of the Russian rowing flotilla, led by Prince Nassau-Siegen. For his valor in combat, he was awarded the Order of St. George, 4th Degree, on September 8, 1772, and the Order of St. George, 3rd Degree, on November 26, 1777.

Defeat of the Turkish Fleet

In 1782, Allexiano played a pivotal role in the destruction of the Turkish fleet. His actions on July 17 set the stage for the annihilation of the remaining enemy vessels two days later.

Legacy and Family

Alexis Allexiano's life ended tragically on July 8, 1788, during the siege of Ochakov. His brother, Anton, also served honorably in the Russian Navy, retiring with the rank of vice-admiral. Allexiano's contributions to Russian naval supremacy remain an enduring testament to his courage and skill.
