Pascal Gruny: A Prominent Political Figure in France

Early Political Career

Pascal Gruny, a French politician, initially entered politics in 1983 as a member of the municipal council of Offoy in the Somme department. She served as deputy mayor of Offoy from 1989 to 1995.

Rise in the Aisne Department

In 2001, Gruny became actively involved in politics in the neighboring Aisne department, joining the municipal council of Saint-Quentin on the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) list led by Pierre André. In 2002, she became the deputy candidate for Xavier Bertrand, who later became a senator, in the 2nd constituency of the Aisne department.

National Assembly and European Parliament

In 2004, Gruny entered the National Assembly as a replacement for Bertrand, who had been appointed a cabinet minister. She served as Bertrand's substitute in the National Assembly elections in both 2007 and 2012 and spent a total of six years in the Assembly. In 2009, she was elected to the European Parliament but returned to the National Assembly in 2010 after Bertrand's appointment as Minister of Social Affairs.

Senatorship

In 2014, Gruny was elected to the French Senate on a UMP list led by Antoine Lefèvre. She was re-elected in 2020 and became the Vice-President of the Senate in 2020.

Local and Regional Politics

In April 2015, Gruny and Thomas Dudebout were elected to the new departmental council of Aisne. Gruny served as the vice-president of the council until 2017.

In January 2013, Gruny was awarded the Legion of Honor, one of the highest honors in France.
