American Writer, Scholar, and Former Military
Paula Broadwell, born Paula Kranz, is an American writer, scholar, and former military officer. She was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota. She excelled academically and was an outstanding basketball player in school. Her parents divorced when she was a teenager.

Education and Military Career
In 1995, Broadwell graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Political Geography. She later obtained a Master's degree from a university in Denver in 2006. Broadwell also earned another Master's degree from Harvard University.

According to The Washington Post, Broadwell faced academic challenges during her time at Harvard and was given an offer by the administration to end her studies. She briefly served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve. In August 2012, she was set to receive a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, but the scandal involving General David Petraeus caused her promotion to be put on hold.

Writing Career and Scandal
Broadwell gained recognition as one of the authors of the book 'All In: The Education of General David Petraeus,' a biography of the former commander of the International Security Assistance Force. It was later revealed that Broadwell had an extramarital affair with Petraeus, which led to his resignation as the Director of the CIA.
In 2006, prior to her encounter with Petraeus, Broadwell attempted to join the FBI. She had an impressive resume and could have easily obtained a position, but she chose to pursue further education at Harvard. Broadwell is currently married to Scott Broadwell, a radiologist, and they have two children. They met in 2000 while serving in the military.
Broadwell's involvement in the scandal with David Petraeus led to complications in her military career. It was discovered that she had sent threatening emails to Jill Kelley, who was involved in a romantic relationship with Petraeus. During an FBI interview, Broadwell admitted to her affair with Petraeus, and secret documents were found on her computer, linking her to potential national security concerns. However, it could not be definitively proven that Petraeus had given her the documents. Ultimately, Petraeus resigned, and Broadwell faced difficulties in her military promotion.
