Transition to Ice Dancing and Success in the USA
At 18, Petr transitioned to ice dancing and teamed up with Sofia Eliazova, representing both the USSR and Russia. In 1992, he relocated to the United States with his first wife, Natalia Annenko, to pursue professional skating. His partnership with Naomi Lang emerged in 1996.

Chernyshev and Lang's collaboration proved to be highly successful. They quickly rose through the ranks, securing their first US National title in 1998 and collecting a total of five gold medals in subsequent years. After acquiring American citizenship, they had the opportunity to participate in the 2002 Olympics, where they placed 11th.
