Phil Brown: English Footballer and Manager
Phil Brown is an English footballer and football manager. As a player, he made over 650 appearances throughout his career, but never played at the top level. However, Phil Brown's career as a manager has been more successful.
Coaching Career
Phil Brown was manager of Hull City from 2006 to 2010. During the 2007/08 season, he led the club to a third-place finish in the Football League Championship, earning promotion to the Premier League. The team managed to stay in the Premier League the following season, finishing in 17th place, just one place above the relegation zone. However, Hull City was relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2009/10 season, and Phil Brown was relieved of his duties as manager. Brown became the first manager to lead Hull City to the English Premier League in the club's 104-year history.
In 2011, Brown became manager of Preston North End. He also enjoyed success with Southend United, guiding them to victory in the play-offs, earning the club promotion to League One. It was Brown's tactical masterstroke of bringing on Piggott as a substitute who scored a crucial goal in the last seconds of normal time that allowed Southend to level the score in the final against Wycombe and win on penalties.
