Early Life and EducationPia Olsen Dyhr was born on November 30, 1971, in Vallensbæk, Denmark, into a disadvantaged family. She grew up in social housing with her younger brother, raised by a cleaning worker and an alcoholic father. From 1992 to 2010, she studied at the University of Copenhagen, obtaining a master's degree in political science.
Political Career
Dyhr became involved in politics at a young age. She led the youth organization of the Socialist People's Party (SF) from 1996 to 1998. In 2000, she took a break from university to work in environmental policy and later became an international coordinator for the Danish Society for Nature Conservation. In 2006, she became a political advisor for CARE International Denmark.
In 2007, Dyhr was elected to the Folketing (Danish parliament) for the first time. She served as Minister of Trade and Investment from 2011 to 2013 and as Minister of Transport from 2013 to 2014.
Leadership of the Socialist People's Party
In 2014, Dyhr became the leader of the SF after her predecessor, Annette Vilhelmsen, resigned following a decision to sell government shares in an energy company. Dyhr has led the SF since then, guiding the party through a period of both successes and challenges.
