Early Life and Musical Journey
Pierre Hantaï was born to Hungarian abstract artist Simon Hantaï (Shimon Hantái) in 1955. He commenced his clavichord studies at the age of 11, embarking on a two-year apprenticeship under the tutelage of renowned clavichordist Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam.
Competition Success and Collaborations
Hantaï's prodigious talent was recognized in 1982 when he placed second in the Bruges Clavichord Competition. The following year, he emerged victorious, claiming first prize. His exceptional skills led him to perform with esteemed orchestras under the direction of Sigiswald Kuijken, Jordi Savall, and other illustrious conductors.
Formation of Le Concert Français
In 1985, Hantaï joined forces with his brothers, Marc and Jérôme, and violinist François Fernandez to establish the Baroque music ensemble Le Concert Français. As its artistic director, he has guided the group to critical acclaim.
Solo Career and Repertoire
Hantaï's solo performances have garnered widespread recognition for his profound interpretations of the works of Bach, Handel, Domenico Scarlatti, Frescobaldi, Marin Marais, and other European Baroque composers.
