Biography of Michael de Caris

Jurist and Diplomat

Italian jurist and diplomat Michael de Caris was a prominent figure in the 15th century. He dedicated himself to the systematic codification of Savoyard laws, culminating in the compilation "Decreta sabaudiae ducalia tam vetera quam nova."

Papal Envoy

Caris also served as the Savoyard ambassador to the Papal See. Notably, he delivered a congratulatory address to Pope Alexander VI in 1492. In this address, Caris enthusiastically called upon the Pope to emulate Alexander the Great and embark on a campaign to conquer the Turks and establish a global empire.

Literary Legacy

Caris's writings include "Orationes et Epistolae," a collection of speeches and letters published in Lyon in 1497. These works provide valuable insights into the political and diplomatic landscape of his era.
