The Birth of "Poputchik"

In the late 1980s, long before the release of his iconic hit "Zhigan-Lemon," Mikhail Krug embarked on his musical journey with "Poputchik." Participating in music festivals in Tver, he captivated the jury with his unique style. There, he joined forces with musicians from the Metallist Culture Center and began recording his early albums on cassettes.

The Original "Poputchik"

Krug's live performances featured accordionist Vlad Savosin and keyboardist Vladimir Ovcharov, forming the inaugural lineup of "Poputchik." As their musical endeavors progressed, their ensemble expanded to include violin, female backing vocals, and guitar. This distinctive sound, complemented by Savosin's accordion, became the signature accompaniment for Krug's velvety baritone in the studio albums recorded at "Liga" in Tver.

The First Official Concert

On a fateful day in 1992, "Poputchik" graced the stage of the "Stary Zamok" restaurant, marking the beginning of their concert career. The venue was generously offered by Vyacheslav Ataev.

Sustaining the Legacy

Two decades later, the talented arrangements of Igor Bobylev, Yuri Voronov, and Valery Gareev, along with Gareev's exceptional guitar playing, continue to infuse "Poputchik's" independent albums. The group seamlessly integrates their musical heritage with the fresh perspectives of arranger and sound engineer Denis Derevenitsky.

A Period of Change

Over the course of a decade, more than 30 musicians have contributed to "Poputchik's" live performances. Together with Krug, they released six official albums: "Zhigan-Lemon," "Zelyony Prokuror," "Madam," "Roza," "Myshka," and "Ispoved."

The Loss and the Legacy

The tragic loss of Krug in 2002 deeply affected the group, leaving them to forge ahead without his guiding hand. Months before his untimely demise, Krug had expressed a desire for "Poputchik" to record an independent album under the moniker: "Mikhail Krug presents..." Despite the circumstances, the project was completed posthumously.

"Poputchik" as an Independent Entity

Today, "Poputchik" stands as a self-sufficient creative entity, having released five independent albums: "Pobieg," "Kompaniya Shalnya," "10-let Spustya," "Sha," and "Bilet v Parizh."
