Biography of Prahlad Jani

Prahlad Jani, an Indian ascetic, claims to live without food and water. Jani asserts that he has not eaten for over 70 years. Surprisingly, he has undergone two tests, paradoxically, which he successfully passed. Born in 1929 in a small village near Mehsana, Gujarat, Prahlad Jani left his parental home at the age of 7. He lived by himself, finding a home in the jungles. At the age of 11, he turned to religion and became a follower of the Indian goddess Amba. As part of his faith, Prahlad dressed as a woman, like his goddess, wearing a red sari, red jewelry, and growing his hair long. It was during this period that Prahlad, now known everywhere as Mataji (The Great Mother), stopped consuming food. He claimed that the goddess Amba provided him with everything he needed for a happy life, and water and regular food were no longer necessary for his body and soul. Since 1970, Prahlad Jani has been living as a hermit in a cave in the tropical forests near the temple of Ambaji in Gujarat. He wakes up at 4 am every day and spends most of his day in meditation.

The Experiments of Prahlad Jani

Despite the unwavering trust of his followers, many scientists became interested in Jani's case, leading to the decision to test his claims. In 2003, he agreed to a 10-day experiment conducted by Sterling Hospitals in Ahmedabad. Jani was confined to a hospital room with only 100 milliliters of water for mouth rinsing. It is known that he did not use the bathroom during these days, allowing the observing doctors to monitor him constantly. To the surprise of the observers, he passed the 10-day test, losing only a little weight, which raised doubts about the purity of the experiment. However, there was no evidence to accuse Jani of fraud - he genuinely lived without food and water during that time. Despite this, it seemed impossible to believe.

In 2010, Jani demonstrated his extraordinary abilities to skeptics once again. From April 22 to May 6, 2010, he allowed representatives from the Defense Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences and several other organizations to observe him. This time, Jani spent 15 days in a closed room without consuming any food, water, or using the bathroom. After the experiment, his condition was thoroughly tested, and to the surprise of the scientists, all his vital signs were normal. Jani expressed his willingness to participate in similar tests in the future.

Skepticism and Controversy

Naturally, there were skeptics who believed that there were loopholes in the conducted tests and that a regular person, no matter how holy they may be from a religious perspective, cannot live without food and water. Dr. Michael Van Rooyen from the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative shares this opinion, stating that such fasting should lead to multiple organ failures like kidney and heart problems. It is also noted that Jani occasionally disappeared from camera view to meet his followers and sunbathe.

Officially, Prahlad Jani has not been exposed, and he continues to claim that he has lived without any food or even water since the age of 11. Interestingly, Indian military officials, along with scientists and doctors, are considering preparing universal soldiers through the Jani program. In drought-prone India, where clean water is scarce, soldiers capable of surviving solely on the energy of the earth and the sun could become an invincible army.

However, there are no official reports in scientific journals regarding Jani's tests, which leads skeptical scientists to insist that he is simply deceiving everyone. On the other hand, there is no evidence to support the claim that he is a fraud since no one has ever seen Prahlad Jani drinking water or consuming food.
