Ragnar Sigurðsson: Icelandic Defender

Born in Iceland, Ragnar Sigurðsson is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for Russian club Rostov and the Iceland national team.

Early Career and Move to Sweden

Sigurðsson began his career in his home country with Fylkir before moving to Swedish club IFK Göteborg in 2006. Making his debut in the Allsvenskan on April 6, 2007, he played 26 games in his first season, helping Göteborg win the league title.

Göteborg Success and European Interest

Sigurðsson's impressive performances at Göteborg attracted interest from clubs in France, England, Italy, and Germany. Despite speculation, he remained with the Swedish club for the following season, featuring in 29 of 30 Allsvenskan matches. In 2008, Göteborg finished third in the league and won both the Swedish Cup and Super Cup. By 2011, Sigurðsson had made 125 appearances for Göteborg, scoring 12 goals.

Transfer to Copenhagen

On May 30, 2011, Sigurðsson signed a four-year contract with Danish club FC Copenhagen, with the transfer fee reportedly around 5.5 million Danish kroner. He spent the next three seasons with Copenhagen, winning the Danish Superliga title in 2012/13 and the Danish Cup in 2011/12.

Move to Russia

On January 16, 2014, Sigurðsson was transferred to Russian club FC Krasnodar, where he made 86 official appearances and scored four goals. After a loan spell with FC Rubin Kazan in 2017, he joined Rostov on January 18, 2018.

International Career

Sigurðsson has been a member of the Iceland national team since 2007. His debut came in a friendly match against Canada in August of that year. In 2016, he made headlines by scoring against England in the Round of 16 at the European Championship. Iceland won the match 2-1 and reached the quarter-finals, with Sigurðsson being named Man of the Match.
