Andrius Skerla: Lithuanian Football Legend and Coach

Early Career and Club Success

Andrius Skerla's professional football journey began with Lithuanian club ROMAR Mažeikiai, where he played a pivotal role in their 1994 Lithuanian Championship victory. Subsequently, he represented Banga, Atlantąs, and Inkaras before making his international debut in 1996 with FC Alania Vladikavkaz in Russia.

Shining in International Clubs

Over three seasons with Alania, Skerla made 71 appearances and scored two goals. His career reached new heights in 1999 when he joined Maccabi Haifa in Israel, where he lifted the league title twice (2001, 2002). His impressive performances continued in Greece with Panathinaikos, where he secured a championship and cup double in 2004.

National Team Career

Skerla's international debut for Lithuania came on May 17, 1995, against Greece. Throughout his time with the national team, he featured in 40 matches and netted one goal. His last appearance was against Iceland on June 11, 2003.

Coaching Debut and Setback

At the age of 37, Skerla became the youngest-ever manager of the Lithuanian national team on February 9, 2010. After a disappointing 1-4 defeat to Czech Republic in the 2012 European Championship qualifying campaign, he resigned from the role.
