Early Career and NHL Draft

Rastislav Staňa is a Slovakian goaltender who began his professional career in the minor leagues of North America in 1998. Following his selection in the 7th round (193rd overall) by the Washington Capitals in the NHL Entry Draft, Staňa embarked on his journey towards the top levels of hockey.

NHL Stint and Return to Europe

In 2004, Staňa made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals, playing in 6 games. However, he subsequently returned to Europe, suiting up for several Swedish clubs, including Södertälje, Malmö Redhawks, and Linköping. With Linköping, he earned two silver medals in the Swedish Championship.

Success in Russia

In 2008, Staňa moved to Russia to play for Severstal Cherepovets. He quickly established himself as one of the team's top performers, finishing among the top three players according to fan votes for two consecutive years. After the arrival of Vasili Koshechkin in the 2010-11 season, Staňa's playing time was reduced.

Joining CSKA Moscow

On July 18, 2011, Staňa signed a two-year contract with CSKA Moscow. With the team, he has enjoyed a successful tenure, contributing to the club's strong performances.

International Achievements

Staňa has represented Slovakia at numerous international tournaments, including the World Junior Championships, World Championships, World Cups, and Olympic Games. He was part of the Slovakian team that won the World Championship in 2002 and earned bronze medals in both 2003 and 1999.
