Early Life and Education

Reinhold Richard Priebus was born on March 18, 1972, in Dover, New Jersey, to Richard Priebus, a German-American, and Dimitra (Rula) Pitsilos, a Greek-American. His mother worked as a real estate agent, and his father was an electrician. His middle name, "Reins," is a shortened form of his grandfather's name, Reinhold W. Priebus.

Priebus attended Pleasant Prairie Elementary School and graduated from George Nelson Tremper High School in 1990. He earned a B.A. in English and Political Science cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1994 and a J.D. cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1998. He was the president of the National Student Republican Committee and was involved in several political campaigns while still a student.

After graduating from law school, Priebus returned to Wisconsin and joined the law firm Michael Best & Friedrich. He became a partner in 2006, practicing in the litigation and corporate groups.

In 2007, Priebus was elected Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, becoming the youngest person to hold this position. He led the party to success in the 2010 elections, winning control of the state Senate and Assembly and electing Scott Walker as governor.
