Early Career

René Aufhauser's football journey began at the tender age of 14 when he joined the youth academy of Köflach. After a period of development in the regional amateur league, Aufhauser made a name for himself at Voitsberg, where he showcased his skills in 17 matches and netted 2 goals from 1995 to 1996.

Professional Debut and Rise to Prominence

In 1997, Aufhauser embarked on his professional career with Austria Salzburg, where he established himself as a key midfielder. He graced the pitch 144 times for the club, scoring 18 goals and capturing his first Austrian Bundesliga title and Super Cup.

Success with GAK

In 2001, Aufhauser made a significant move to GAK, where he continued to excel. Over 119 appearances, he found the net on 17 occasions and contributed to the club's second Austrian Bundesliga triumph, as well as the acquisition of the Super Cup. Additionally, he celebrated two Austrian Cup victories during his tenure with GAK.

Return to Salzburg and International Recognition

In 2005, Aufhauser returned to Salzburg, where he remained a pivotal figure. He helped the club secure their third Austrian Bundesliga trophy in 2007 and participated in both the Champions League qualifying round and the first round of the UEFA Cup. Simultaneously, Aufhauser represented Austria's youth team on 7 occasions.

National Team Debut and UEFA European Championship

On March 27, 2002, Aufhauser made his debut for the Austrian national football team in a match against Slovakia. His first international goal came on May 18, 2002, in a friendly against Germany. He went on to represent his nation at the UEFA European Championship in 2008, where he played in all three of their group stage matches.
