Early Life and EducationRima Fakih was born on October 2, 1986 in Srife, Lebanon. In 1993, her family moved to New York, where she attended St. John's Preparatory School, a Catholic school. In 2003, her family relocated to Dearborn, Michigan. Fakih graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn with a degree in economics and business management. She plans to attend law school after taking a year-long break.
Miss USA 2010
Rima Fakih gained recognition in the beauty pageant world when she won the title of Miss Michigan on September 19, 2009. She went on to participate in the national Miss USA competition on May 16, 2010. Fakih emerged as the winner among forty contestants, judged in three categories: personal interview, evening gown, and swimsuit/sportswear. Notably, she became the first Miss Michigan to win the national title since Kenya Moore in 1993.
A Groundbreaking Win
Fakih's victory in the Miss USA pageant is often regarded as groundbreaking. She is believed to be the second Lebanese, first Arab, first Muslim, and first immigrant to win the Miss USA title. Controversies
Shortly after the beauty pageant, the internet media became interested in a website that featured information about a contest called "Stripper 101" that took place in 2007. Fakih had won the contest, which involved pole dancing, organized by Detroit radio station WKQI. Representatives of the radio station claimed that the Miss USA pageant's organizers had contacted them and requested more photos and information about the contest. The station defended Fakih, stating that the photos on the website were no more revealing or provocative than those featured in some Miss USA competitions.
Personal Life
Rima Fakih currently resides in Dearborn. She comes from a Muslim family that also celebrates Christian holidays alongside traditional Muslim festivities. In addition to her beauty pageant success, Fakih appeared in a controversial independent short film titled "Throbbing Justice," which had strong sexual undertones.
