Early Life and Political Beginnings

Ludwig Friedrich Kurt von Keudell was born in Hanover, Germany, in 1842. A German statesman, he played a significant role in the unification of Germany under Otto von Bismarck.

Bismarck's Advisor

In 1863, Keudell joined Bismarck's administration as one of his chief assistants. He worked closely with Bismarck in the drafting and implementation of key policies that shaped German history.

Reichstag Member and Diplomatic Missions

In 1871, Keudell was elected to the German Reichstag, where he joined the Imperial (Free Conservative) Party. His diplomatic career began in 1872 when he was appointed German envoy to Constantinople. Four years later, in 1876, he was posted to Rome, where he served as ambassador until 1887.
