Biography of Rossano Brazzi
Rossano Brazzi was an Italian actor born on September 18th, 1916 in Bologna, Italy. He studied at San Marco University in Florence, where he had been living since the age of four.
Career
Brazzi made his debut in the film industry in 1939 with an Italian production. He had an extensive filmography, mostly consisting of Italian and French projects, but also featured a few films that brought him international recognition. One of his notable works includes the Hollywood blockbuster "Three Coins in the Fountain" in 1954, where he portrayed the character Giorgio Bianchi. He also starred in the romantic drama "Summertime" in 1955, directed by David Lean, alongside Katharine Hepburn. Other well-known films featuring Brazzi include the Italian-American crime drama "The Barefoot Contessa" in 1954, the drama "The Story of Esther Costello" in 1957, and the musical "Count Your Blessings" with Mitzi Gaynor. In 1962, he played the lead role in the melodrama "The Light in the Piazza" alongside Olivia de Havilland, and in the comedy-action film "The Italian Job" in 1969, working alongside Michael Caine, Noel Coward, and Benny Hill.
Personal Life
In 1940, Brazzi married Baroness Lidia Bertolini, and they remained married until her death in 1981. The couple did not have any children. In 1982, he married Ilse Fischer, a German woman. Although they also did not have any children, Brazzi had a son born on July 24th, 1955 from a previous relationship with Llewella Humphreys, the daughter of influential mobster Murray Humphreys.
Later Years and Death
In 1984, Brazzi was arrested for arms trafficking. He passed away in Rome on the eve of Christmas in 1994 at the age of 78 due to a virus that affected his nervous system.
