Biography of Rafiga Gadiroglu Ismayilov
Academic and Scientific CareerRafiga Gadiroglu Ismayilov was a prominent scientist and academician in Azerbaijan. In 1961, he earned his doctorate in technical sciences and became a professor. In 1962, he was elected as an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (AN AzSSR). He served as the President of AN AzSSR from 1967 to 1970.
Political and Administrative Roles
Ismayilov was an active member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) from 1941 onwards. He served as the Minister of Oil Refining and Petrochemical Industry of the Azerbaijan SSR from 1965 to 1967.
Contributions to Oil and Petrochemistry
Ismayilov's main research interests lay in petrochemistry and the technology of oil refining. He made significant contributions to the improvement of thermal cracking technology in the oil refining industry of Azerbaijan. He was a pioneer in the development of petrochemical synthesis processes in the republic, particularly in the industrial district of Sumgait.
Research and Leadership
Under Ismayilov's leadership, important work was conducted on the reconstruction of Baku's thermal cracking facilities, the study of catalytic aromatization of low-octane gasoline and ligroin fractions, and the improvement of crude oil pyrolysis technology.
His efforts were instrumental in establishing a hydrocarbon raw material base for the development of the republic's petrochemical industry. He authored over 120 scientific works, including 7 monographs.
Awards and Recognition
Ismayilov received numerous awards and honors for his achievements. He was named a Hero of Socialist Labor in 1948 and awarded five Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and several medals. He was also a laureate of the Stalin Prize (1948) and a Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1964).
