Early Life and EducationThe acclaimed Polish translator was born in Poland and pursued a degree in German studies.
Literary Career
Debut and Notable TranslationsIn 1986, he embarked on his literary journey with a translation of Klaus Mann's "The Ventriloquist." He has since translated numerous works from German into Polish, including renowned novels by Erich Maria Remarque, such as "All Quiet on the Western Front" ("Leben auf Zeit"), "The Enemy," "Spark of Life," "Night in Lisbon," and "Shadows in Paradise." His portfolio also includes translations of Heinrich Böll's "Group Portrait with Lady" and "Women on the Riverbank," as well as Klaus Mann's "Escape to the North" and Stefan Heym's "Ahasver."
Children's Books and Poetry
He has also brought to Polish readers the enchanting children's books of Michael Ende, as well as collections of poetry by Friederike Mayröcker, Ilse Aichinger, and Lisa Mayer.
Scholarly Works
Beyond fiction, he has translated significant works of Jewish scholarship, including Gershom Scholem's "Kabbalah and Its Symbolism" and Martin Buber's "Moses."
