Biography of Saad Hariri
Saad Hariri, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the "al-Mustakbal" party in the Lebanese Parliament, is the head of the Future Movement and ran for the Lebanese Parliament with a program of anti-corruption measures and plans for country reform. His party won the majority of 72 out of 128 seats in the parliament in the 2005 elections.
Early Life
Saad Hariri was born on April 8, 1970. He is the second son of Rafik Hariri, the former Prime Minister of Lebanon who was assassinated in 2005. Saad Hariri received his higher education in business administration from Georgetown University. At the time of his father's death, he was working in a managerial position at Saudi Oger Company in Saudi Arabia.
Political Career
After his father's death and the Cedar Revolution, Saad Hariri returned to Lebanon to continue his father's work. He took the lead of the Future Movement and ran for the Lebanese Parliament with a program of anti-corruption measures and plans for country reform. His party won the majority of 72 out of 128 seats in the parliament in the 2005 elections.
During his political career, Saad Hariri supported negotiations for the disarmament of Hezbollah and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Shebaa Farms area. He also spoke out against Syrian influence in Lebanese internal affairs.
