Anthony Hinds was born on December 27, 1943. He holds a degree in chemical engineering and worked as Head of Chemical Engineering at Alcan before entering politics.

Political Career

Premiership under Cheddi Jagan

Hinds became Prime Minister in October 1992, when the People's Progressive Party (PPP) and the Civic coalition won elections under the leadership of Cheddi Jagan.

Presidency and Return to Premiership

In March 1997, following Jagan's death, Hinds became President of Guyana. He resigned from the presidency in 1999, passing the mantle to Janet Jagan, Cheddi Jagan's widow. Hinds subsequently resumed his position as Prime Minister.

Premiership under Bharrat Jagdeo

In August 1999, due to deteriorating health, Janet Jagan resigned and Hinds was replaced as Prime Minister by Bharrat Jagdeo. Jagdeo later became President of Guyana, and Hinds was once again appointed Prime Minister.

Continued Premiership

Following the government's re-election in 2006, Hinds resumed his duties as Prime Minister in September of that year. He has held the position continuously since 1992, making him one of the longest-serving Prime Ministers in Guyana's history.
