Biography of Sarvat Begbudi

Sarvat Midkhatovich Begbudi was born on June 5, 1945, in Tashkent, in a well-known circus family. His mother, Lola Khojaeva, was a renowned circus rider, and his father was a prominent educator and playwright. Many members of his family were associated with the circus. When Begbudi turned nine years old, his mother remarried the famous circus performer Yuri Vladimirovich Durov. From a young age, Begbudi was involved in animal training. At the age of 17, Durov entrusted him with the independent training of ferrets and ponies. He worked with various animals, including elephants, white tigers, rhinos, giraffes, ponies, and zebras, but he primarily dedicated his circus career to horses. He was also a juggler and performed at the Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. He performed in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia, and Belgium. He currently works with his wife, trainer Svetlana Begbudi.

Career in "Ugolok Durova" Theater

Since 2006, Begbudi has been serving at the "Ugolok Durova" theater. After the death of his step-sister Natalia Yuryevna Durova in 2007, he became the leading artist and trainer of "Ugolok Durova." On July 28, 2020, an individual star was unveiled in the foyer of the Bolshoi Moscow State Circus on the "Alley of Stars" in honor of Sarvat Begbudi.

Family Background

His mother, Lola Mukhamedovna Khojaeva (born in 1923), was a circus artist, rider, and dog trainer, and she was honored as the People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR in 1950. His stepfather, Yuri Vladimirovich Durov (1910-1971), was a circus performer and a People's Artist of the USSR. His first wife, Olga Nikolaevna Denisova (April 26, 1946 - February 8, 2022), was an acrobat and a trainer of white tigers and horses, and she was awarded the Honored Artist of Russia. His second wife, Svetlana Begbudi (born Travnikova in 1956), is a circus artist and a horse trainer.

Awards and Achievements

- Honored Artist of the Tajik SSR (February 14, 1980).
- People's Artist of the RSFSR (April 13, 1988).
- Order of Honor (December 17, 1994) - for services to the people related to the development of Russian statehood, achievements in labor, science, culture, art, and strengthening friendship and cooperation between peoples.
- Gratitude from the Minister of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation (June 1, 2005) - for significant personal contribution to the development of domestic circus art and on the occasion of the anniversary of his birth.
- Laureate of the International Competition in Monte Carlo.
- Laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize (1981).
