Early Life and Career
Sergey Borovsky is a former Soviet and Belarusian footballer and coach. He began his career as a player with the youth academy of Minsk SDYUSHOR-5. In 1972-1973, he represented Dynamo Minsk's reserve team before joining the senior squad in 1974.
Dynamo Minsk and International Success
Borovsky established himself as a key defender for Dynamo Minsk, playing 400 league matches and scoring eight goals. He captained the team from 1978-1979 and 1984-1985, leading them to the Soviet Championship title in 1982. In European competitions, he made 19 appearances. From 1981 to 1985, Borovsky earned 21 caps for the USSR national team, participating in the 1982 World Cup.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Borovsky transitioned into coaching in 1989. He served as head coach of several clubs in Belarus, Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Lithuania, as well as the Belarus national team on two occasions. Under his leadership, Belarus achieved a memorable victory over the Netherlands in 1995 but also suffered a surprising defeat to Andorra in 2000.
Later Career
In recent years, Borovsky has held various roles in football. He has worked as a consultant, sporting director, and head coach for clubs such as Torpedo-Zhodino, SKVICH Minsk, Vitebsk, and Shakhtyor Soligorsk. In January 2016, he returned to Dynamo Minsk as sporting director and was later appointed head coach in July 2016, winning the 2016 Belarussian Premier League bronze medal. He was dismissed in 2017.
