Early Life and Education
Born in Ukraine, the subject is a renowned lawyer and politician. In 1977, they graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a degree in international relations, specializing in international law. They also earned a PhD in law in 1980, alongside a certification as an English language interpreter.
Academic and Political Beginnings
From 1981 to 1987, the subject served as a lecturer in international law at their alma mater. In 1989, they assumed leadership of the political and legal council of the People's Movement of Ukraine.
Parliamentary Career
The subject entered the Ukrainian Parliament as a member of the People's Deputies in March 1990. In 2002, they were elected to the Verkhovna Rada on the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc ticket, but left the faction in 2005 due to their support for the Yekhanurov government, which replaced the resigned Tymoshenko.
In 2006, they were re-elected on the "Our Ukraine" party list. However, in 2007, they unexpectedly criticized the party's stance calling for parliament dissolution and early elections. As a result, they were expelled from "Our Ukraine." Since 2007, the subject has been a member of the Regions Party.
Minister of Justice
From September 1995 to August 1997, the subject served as Ukraine's Minister of Justice. They resumed the position in October 2005 under the Yekhanurov government.
