Igor Gomanov: A Soccer Legend

Igor Gomanov, a Soviet and Belarusian football player and coach, began his career as a defender in 1979 with FC Dinamo Brest. He spent three seasons with the team before returning to his hometown of Minsk.

Success with Dinamo Minsk

Gomanov joined FC Dinamo Minsk, which went on to become the USSR champions in 1982. However, he did not make any appearances during the championship season. In 1983, he moved to FC Dnepr Mogilev, which played in the Second League.

International Recognition

In 1987, Gomanov returned to Dinamo Minsk as a starting player. He became known for his impressive long throw-ins from the sidelines. He made his debut in European competitions during the 1987/88 season, appearing in nine games overall.

Post-Soviet Career

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Gomanov continued his playing career in Belarus with FC Metallurg Molodechno. In 1992, he transferred to FC Temp Shepetovka in Ukraine, where he spent two years before returning to Belarus. He ended his playing career with FC MPKC Mozyr.

Coaching Career

Upon retiring as a player, Gomanov became a coach for FC Zvezda-BGU Minsk. In 2005, he served as the club's interim head coach, leading the team in 12 games with two draws and several losses.

From 2010 until his untimely passing, Gomanov led FC Vedrich-97 in the First League.

Tragic End

Igor Gomanov tragically passed away in the Leningrad Hotel fire on the 1st of January. His legacy as a skilled footballer and dedicated coach will be remembered by his fans and colleagues.
