Sergey Georgievich Strelchenko was born on December 2, 1959, in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. He graduated from the Tyumen Higher Military Engineering Command School, specializing in "Engineering of Engineering Weapons Equipment." From 1981 to 1983, he served on a mission in the Republic of Afghanistan. In 1994, he completed his service in the Armed Forces with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Involvement with Veterans' Organizations
In 1994, Strelchenko was elected as the chairman of the Novocherkassk City Branch of the Russian Union of Afghan Veterans (RSVA). He served in this role until October 1997 when he became the chairman of the board of the regional public organization "Union of Afghan Veterans" in the Rostov region.
Political Career
On December 19, 1999, Strelchenko was elected as a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation for the third convocation. From January 28, 2000, he became a member of the Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Management in the State Duma.
Strelchenko is also a member of the central control and revision commission of the "Unity" party. He is married and has a daughter.
