Shifra Blinov: Ukrainian-American Beauty Queen and Talented Performer

American with Ukrainian roots, Shifra Blinov recently emerged as the prizewinner of Brooklyn's "Queen Grandmother" beauty and talent contest.

A Life Filled with Performance and Vitality

Blinov has always prioritized her well-being and has been actively involved in performing arts since the tender age of five. While many of her peers may choose to spend their days gossiping, Blinov maintains an energetic lifestyle. Her passion lies in singing and entertaining. The vibrant 86-year-old was born in Ukraine, a heritage she proudly acknowledges. During the contest, she captivated the audience with a Russian song performed alongside her granddaughters. Blinov has lived a remarkable life, including serving as a nurse during World War II.

Four Years of Determination Rewarded

Blinov is no stranger to beauty competitions. The Sheepshead Bay resident has competed for the Queen Grandmother crown for the past four years. Her perseverance finally paid off at the latest contest, sponsored by the Brooklyn-based community group "Be Proud." Blinov emerged victorious in the "over 69" category.

Tears of Joy and Inspiring Energy

Blinov received the prestigious award with tears in her eyes. She expressed humble gratitude, admitting that she had not expected to win. The judges, comprised of fellow senior citizens, were impressed by Blinov's boundless and infectious inner energy. Alexander Lachman, a 65-year-old juror, remarked that witnessing the active grandmothers made him feel years younger. He regretted not having the opportunity to socialize with them in their youth.

A Tale of Two Queens: Blinov and Deleu-Bard

Blinov was not the only "Queen Grandmother" to impress the judges. Bella Deleu-Bard, also from Sheepshead Bay, took home the crown in the "under 69" category. The 65-year-old dazzled the crowd with a lively Spanish dance, accompanied by her 20-year-old grandson, Roma Khaves. Despite the sleepless night spent preparing their performance, Deleu-Bard thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Recognition and Appreciation

As a token of appreciation, Blinov and Deleu-Bard were presented with glass victory trophies and brand-new sofas. Their achievements showcased the beauty and talent of the elderly population, inspiring others to embrace life with the same vigor and enthusiasm.
