Early Career and International Debut

Simon Atangana is a Cameroonian footballer who played as a striker. He began his career with the Cameroonian clubs Fougre and Olympic Mvolyé. During this time, he also represented Cameroon's youth national team. In 2000, he was acquired by the Saudi Arabian club Al-Fateh, but his stint there was brief.

Return to Cameroon and Move to Scotland

Atangana returned to Cameroon and joined Tonner, one of the country's leading football clubs. In 2000, he signed a contract with Dundee United in Scotland, but failed to establish himself in the team's starting lineup. After making only 11 league appearances over two seasons, he was loaned out to Port Vale in the English First Division in January 2002.

Stints in Lower English Leagues

Following his loan spell at Port Vale, Atangana represented Colchester United, Grays Athletic, and Halstead Town in the lower tiers of English football.

Move to Russia

In 2004, Atangana joined the Russian club Luch-Energia, where he became a fan favorite. He spent one season with Luch, scoring 11 goals in 39 appearances and earning the title of Best Foreign Player in the Russian First Division.

Terek and Brief Loan to Belarus

Atangana was subsequently purchased by Terek but failed to impress during the team's training camp. He played sparingly, making only 11 appearances. In June, he was loaned out to Lokomotiv Minsk in Belarus. In his debut match, he scored a hat-trick against BATE. However, his goal-scoring rate declined thereafter.

Return to Terek and Contract Expiration

Atangana returned to Terek and spent the following season with the club, making 33 appearances and scoring 9 goals. However, Terek declined to extend his contract, leading him to search for a new team.

Unsuccessful Trials and Move to France

Atangana had an unsuccessful trial with Metallurg and attempted to join Dynamo Bryansk in 2009, but the move fell through. In 2010, he joined the French club Olympique Saint-Dizier. In the 2010/11 season, he scored 6 goals in 21 matches in the French fourth division.

International Career

In 1999, Atangana made his debut for the Cameroon national team in preparation for the Sydney Olympics. He scored a goal against Manchester City during a tour of England. In total, he played 29 times for Cameroon and netted 11 goals.

Personal Life

Atangana's wife is Maria-Patricia, and they have a son and a daughter. When he moved to Luch-Energia, his agent took advantage of his lack of knowledge about Russian football and falsely claimed that he would be playing in the Russian Premier League.
