Sophie Cluzel: French Entrepreneur, Activist, and Politician
Early Life and EducationSophie Cluzel is a prominent French entrepreneur, activist, and politician. The granddaughter of General Marie-Eugène Debney and geologist Pierre Termier, she graduated from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Marseille (later reorganized into KEDGE Business School).
Advocacy for People with Disabilities
Cluzel has dedicated her life to improving the lives of people with disabilities. She co-founded two NGOs, SAIS 92 and Grandir à l'école, to provide support and resources. She became the president of the National Federation of Associations for Students with Disabilities (FNASEPH) in 2011 and served on the board of the National Union of Parents of Children with Disabilities (Unapei).
Political Career
Cluzel entered politics in 2017, becoming State Secretary for People with Disabilities in the first Édouard Philippe government. She retained her position in Philippe's second government and in the subsequent government of Jean Castex.
Regional Elections
In 2021, Cluzel led the La République En Marche! (LREM) list for the upcoming regional elections in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. However, she later withdrew the list and endorsed the right-leaning list led by Renaud Muselier, due to concerns about the far-right National Rally gaining ground in the region.
Continued Advocacy
After concluding her government service in 2022, Cluzel continued to advocate for people with disabilities.
Personal Life
Cluzel and her husband, Bruno, have four children. Their youngest daughter, Julia, was born in 1995 with Down syndrome and has worked in the kitchen of the Élysée Palace since the age of 21.
