Early Life and Education

Born on September 13, 1963, in Vollenhove, Netherlands, Sophie in 't Veld embarked on a path of academic achievement. She graduated from Leiden University in 1991 with a degree in Social Sciences. Subsequently, she pursued a doctorate in Public Administration and Governance, completing her studies in 1993-1994.

Political Journey

In 't Veld's political career began with her affiliation with the Democrats 66 (D66) party. She served as a member of the Executive Committee of D66 in Delft (1993-1994) and as Chair of the Belgian D66 branch (2000-2003).

Her European Parliament tenure commenced in 2004, representing the Netherlands. She has been consistently re-elected, serving terms in 2009, 2014, and 2019. In 't Veld is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) group.

Advocacy and Activism

Beyond her parliamentary responsibilities, in 't Veld has been an ardent advocate for human rights, particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals. She serves on the advisory board of Privacy International and is an honorary member of the National Secular Society (NSS).
