16th-Century Polish Scholar

A distinguished scholar of the 16th century, this Polish academic made significant contributions to the fields of law and translation.

Education and Legal Career

In 1565, he earned a doctorate in law from the University of Bologna. During his time there, he published a series of speeches entitled "De laudibus Jurisprudentiae."

Ecclesiastical Appointment and Canonry

Following his academic achievements, he became a canon of the Płock Cathedral.

Translation Work

Renowned for his mastery of Greek, the scholar dedicated his efforts to translating a wide range of works from the Greek language into Latin. These translations included:

- Speeches of Synesius (Venice, 1543; 3rd edition 1633)

- Works of Dionysius of Halicarnassus (Paris, 1556)
- Writings of Saint Basil (Venice, 1664)

Other translated works, including Saint Basil's theological treatises, were published in Frankfurt with the original Greek text (1598 and 1611).
