Biography of Stephen Connor
Stephen Connor, a 30-year-old avid sportsman, tragically passed away during a football match. He collapsed unconscious on the field after complaining of dizziness. Despite the efforts of his teammates, Connor could not be revived. Only ten weeks earlier, he had tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Nicola Blaxall, who described him as "one of the most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet."
Meeting Nicola Blaxall
Stephen and Nicola, who is four years his junior, met seven years ago at Bangor University. Recently, they had returned from their honeymoon, where they traveled to Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The couple was contemplating starting a family.
Shock and Grief
Blaxall expressed her shock and disbelief over the tragic events, stating that there were no signs of trouble. She recounted their last conversation, in which Connor said, "See you later," as he left for the football match. She was preparing to go shopping at the time. Blaxall continued, grateful for the seven and a half wonderful years spent with Stephen, describing him as calm, kind-hearted, and always ready to help.
Passion for Football
Blaxall emphasized Connor's love for football, particularly his fanatical support for Burnley Football Club. She mentioned that the funeral would incorporate the club's colors, burgundy and blue. The tragedy occurred while Connor, known as "Dingle," was playing midfield for Plough FC in the Chorley Nissan Sunday League. He collapsed in the 30th minute of the match, prompting his teammates to administer CPR until the ambulance arrived. Connor was then airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Remembering Stephen Connor
Sam Bolton, one of the players who tried to help Connor, expressed his grief and described the desperate efforts to save him. Derek Heighway, the league secretary, expressed shock over the loss, stating that Connor was well-known and had been a prominent figure in the CNS league for a long time. Heighway described him as a "lovely lad." In addition to playing football himself, Connor also assisted in coaching youth teams. In his last season with Plough, he played seven matches, scoring two goals and earning the title of "Man of the Match" in a game against Springfield FC. John Cowley, the club chairman, praised Connor's character, calling him one of the best individuals he had the honor of coaching or working with.
Fond Memories
Connor's brother, Andrew, expressed the immense void left behind by his brother's sudden departure. He highlighted Stephen's countless hours spent on various sports fields without any previous incidents. His sister, Tricia, described him as kind and always there when they needed him. An autopsy is expected to shed light on the cause of Connor's untimely death.
