Manchester's Homeless Accordionist Transforms into Radio Star

In a serendipitous turn of events, Steve Rimmer, a homeless accordionist from Manchester, has become an overnight sensation and a firm fixture on local radio.

A Chance Encounter

When a scheduled performer failed to appear, producer Christina Percival spotted Rimmer playing his accordion in Manchester's Deansgate. Intrigued by his disheveled appearance and musical talent, she invited him to guest on Key 103's "The Wrong Show."

From the Streets to the Airwaves

Rimmer, 45, had left a corporate IT job in the 1980s to pursue his passion for music. The decision had ultimately led him to homelessness, spending the past four years living on the streets of Manchester. Percival's gamble paid off, as Rimmer's performance captivated listeners and show host DJ Mr Shaw.

The Making of 'Squatter Stevo'

Inspired by Rimmer's potential, Key 103 embarked on a $6,000 makeover, transforming him into the stylish "Squatter Stevo." A team of stylists worked tirelessly to give him a new hairstyle, manicure, pedicure, brow shaping, and a set of dentures. His torn jeans and single shoe were replaced with designer suits and polished shoes.

Triumph and Transformation

Despite feeling somewhat self-conscious, Rimmer embraced his new look, recognizing the efforts that had gone into his transformation. He became an integral part of "The Wrong Show," promising to stay as long as they "don't kick [him] off."

A New Lease on Life

Beyond the makeover, Rimmer received guidance from counselors Nik and Eva Speakman, who have helped thousands worldwide overcome emotional challenges. With newfound confidence, he now dreams of finding love, a prospect that seems more attainable than ever before.
