Early Life and Education
Temur Yakobashvili was born on September 3, 1967, in Tbilisi, Georgia. He received his secondary education at Tbilisi Secondary School No. 4. From 1981 to 1984, he attended the Komarov Physics and Mathematics School for Gifted Youth, graduating with honors.
Yakobashvili then studied physics at Tbilisi State University, graduating in 1990.
Early Diplomatic Career
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1990-2001)From 1990 to 2001, Yakobashvili held various positions within the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- Second Secretary, Department of Eastern Countries (1990-1992)
- First Secretary, Department of Eastern Countries (1992-1993)- Deputy Head, Department of the Middle East and Africa (1993-1995)
- Deputy Head, Department of America, Canada, and Latin America (1995-1998)
- Head, Department of America, Canada, and Latin America (1998-2001)
During this time, Yakobashvili also attended training courses at the United States Information Agency (1995) and specialized diplomatic courses at Oxford and Birmingham universities (1998).
Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (2001-2008)
From 2001 to 2008, Yakobashvili served as the Executive Vice President of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS).
State Minister for Reintegration (2008-Present)
On January 31, 2008, Yakobashvili was appointed State Minister for Reintegration, replacing the earlier title of State Minister for Conflict Resolution. He holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Yakobashvili has played a key role in Georgia's efforts to reintegrate its breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Other Positions and Affiliations
Yakobashvili is a co-founder and board member of the Georgian Council on Foreign Relations and the Atlantic Council of Georgia. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA).
Personal Life
Yakobashvili is married to Yana Fremer, and they have two children. He is fluent in Russian, English, and Hebrew.
